I'm gonna miss momma's fudge and pecan and chocolate cream pie! Momma could bake like nobody's business, and not one time did I ever arrive that she didn't have fresh cookies or a cake made even if I tried a surprise visit. I don't know how my parents maintained their weight. I also looked forward to her potato salad which I often told myself she made just for me, even though I knew it wasn't so, it was her favorite too. Each Christmas momma made Christmas cutout cookies that were perfectly moist inside but held up outside to being iced and oh so delicious! A few occasions we were allowed to help ice the ones that stayed home and a couple that went to family so we could argue over 'who did best'. I carried on the tradition of the Christmas cutout cookies with my own kids, I even have momma's recipe, but I never could match momma's fudge, and it's not for lack of trying, my girls and I all make fudge, it's just not 'momma's fudge'. Some things only momma has the magical touch with. I'll miss that sparkle in her eyes and the way the corner of her mouth slightly turned up as everyone would "Oooo and Ahhh" over her fudge and she would say, "Oh it's nothing really", sly girl.
